David Tallowin and Steve Lovell

Flanagan & Alan, Morecambe & Wise, Smith & Jones. So what! We've got Tallowin & Lovell.
Steve Lovell joined Erith Playhouse just after the rebuild in 1973. He was lured by a young lady called Joanna Baird. They married and have remained active in the Playhouse ever since. Steve is an instinctive organiser as proven by his formation of the "PANTO & PROPS STAGE CREW UNION". Not an easy group to negotiate with. However, Steve is not restricted to stage management. He has another regular duty which he enjoys every third Saturday throughout our Season when he is the "smiling face" at our Foyer Entrance.
David T. is knee deep in a family of Thespians. His ladies act and sing whilst son Russell restricts his skills to set building and crewing. Currently a member of our board David has been involved at the Playhouse since crewing for Erith Operatic Society’s production of 'The Mikado' in 1974. He did "the Lighting" for 'The Ginger Bread Lady' in 1980 and shortly afterwards acquired a slight tingle for Joanna Lumley during a production of 'Blythe Spirit'!
Over the
years they have built many sets together but neither has any ambition to tread
the boards, although David did allow his HAND to be seen once in a Panto.
One set that will last in my memory for a long time to come was 'ALLO 'ALLO'
in May 2002. They work hard together. They are precise and careful. They even
enjoy joint family holidays! But they have a big chink in their range of skills.
They are OK with saw or hammer BUT! naff with a paintbrush! They show great
experience in holding a glass but NOT a brush. Lookout wives, friends or anybody
they can talk into painting the set once it's built. Thank you David &
Steve. May you both enjoy building many more sets.
