Described as " A Trivial Comedy For Serious People" it tells a story of babies in handbags, cucumber sandwiches and muffins, negotiated engagements and lost parents all mixed together in one of the most light hearted and delightful theatre comedies ever written.

This sparkling comedy of manners has absurd satire, sincerity and style, barbed witticisms and ostentatious elegance. Wilde's brilliantly constructed plot and famous dialogue enrich the appeal of his celebrated characters.

The play first presented at the end of the 19th century is as fresh now as the day it was written, and is a perfect commemoration of the centenary of Wilde's death.

Life is stranger than fiction! The inspiration for Wilde came while he was on holiday in Worthing. On the 11th June 1894 The Worthing Gazette reported as follows: - "On Monday a man took a hamper to the Goods Department of the Great Northern Railway, Kings Cross, and requested that it be forwarded to a lady at Richmond. Subsequently, an official found a baby in the hamper. The police were called but no trace of the man could be found."
