by Neil Simon.

10 - 15 September 2001

Erith Playhouse opened it’s new season with the classic Neil Simon comedy Barefoot in the Park. The story revolves around the newly weds Corrie and Paul Bratter, played by Jenny Tallowin and Peter Griffin , as they move into their new New York apartment and encounter a rather strange assortment of neighbours. Corrie’s mother is, as mothers are, very interested in her daughters wellbeing but Corrie is going to make her first home a love nest for her a Paul whatever mother thinks. But Paul, who can see his career about to take off, has other things on his mind and the love nest will have to wait a while. This does not go down well with Corrie.

And then there’s Victor Velasco, the slightly odd but very personable man who lives in the attic. Not many neighbours take a shortcut through your bedroom to get to their own apartment, but he does.

Valasco giving Corrie a hand (John Hart and Jenny Tallowin)

All are brought together when Corrie arranges a dinner party but when the choice of restaurant is left to Velasco the evening takes a quite unexpected turn.

Jean Franks played Corrie’s mother while John Hart was the Bohemian Velasco, with Graham Frosdick and Colin Burring giving full support. The play was produced by Roger Hodge.
