25 - 30 April
Psychological Drama directed by Samantha Langford
Divorced, go-ahead bookseller David is moving into a Victorian house with his new partner, Annie. The vendor has emigrated, leaving furniture, a welcoming bottle of champagne and the services of a daily help. But strange events cast a shadow and cause David’s negative thoughts to rise to the surface.
Their vaguely sinister neighbour, Hewlett, keeps popping in, invited or not, and always seems to forget to return their door key. Hewlett is married but where is his wife? Women’s clothing is found burnt in an incinerator, meant only for garden waste. When the inside proportions of the house do not match up with the exterior measurements, David seems ready to accuse everyone of everything. Annie can cope with his doubts and insecurities to a certain extent but his suspicious mind finally drives them apart.
Action takes place in a Victorian semi-detached house in outer London.
